How it works
The calculator takes the percentage-of-calories range for your chosen carbohydrate level and converts it into grams, using the standard conversion of 4 calories per gram of carbohydrate.
Formula & methodology
Your daily calories are multiplied by a carbohydrate percentage range, then divided by 4 because each gram of carbohydrate provides about 4 calories. The result is a range in grams.
Min carbs (g) = Total calories × Low % ÷ 4Max carbs (g) = Total calories × High % ÷ 4What each term means
- Total calories
- Your daily calorie intake.
- The number 4
- Calories in 1 gram of carbohydrate.
Carbohydrate levels
| Level | Share of calories |
|---|---|
| Low carb | 10 – 25% |
| Moderate carb | 45 – 65% |
| High carb | 65 – 75% |
Worked example
On 2,200 calories with a Moderate carb level (45–65%), that works out to roughly 248–358 g of carbohydrate per day.
