How it works
The calculator applies four separate ideal-body-weight formulas developed for clinical and dosing use, each starting from a base weight for 5 feet of height and adding a fixed amount per inch above that, with different constants for men and women.
Formula & methodology
Devine: 50 + 2.3 × inches over 5 ft (men), 45.5 + 2.3 (women). Robinson: 52 + 1.9 (men), 49 + 1.7 (women). Miller: 56.2 + 1.41 (men), 53.1 + 1.36 (women). Hamwi: 48.0 + 2.7 (men), 45.5 + 2.2 (women), all in kilograms.
Worked example
A man who is 180 cm tall (about 5'11") gets an ideal weight estimate of roughly 71–77 kg depending on the formula used, averaging around 74 kg.
Important notes
- —These formulas were originally developed to estimate drug dosing weight, not necessarily an optimal aesthetic or health target.
- —Results can vary noticeably by formula, especially at greater heights — the average is a reasonable single reference point.
