Body Surface Area Calculator
Enter height and weight to calculate body surface area (BSA) in square meters, using two widely referenced formulas.

How it works
BSA is calculated from height and weight using two different published formulas — Du Bois & Du Bois and Mosteller — which are both commonly referenced for estimating body surface area from simple measurements.
Formula & methodology
Du Bois: BSA = 0.007184 × weight (kg)^0.425 × height (cm)^0.725. Mosteller: BSA = √(weight (kg) × height (cm) ÷ 3600).
Worked example
For a weight of 70 kg and height of 175 cm, the Du Bois formula gives a BSA of about 1.85 m², close to Mosteller's estimate.
Important notes
- —BSA is most often used in clinical and pharmacological contexts (such as certain medication dosing calculations) — always follow a clinician's guidance for medical decisions.
- —The two formulas typically agree closely; larger differences can appear at extreme heights or weights.
